February 22, 2019 –
Speaker: Mariana Mejia
Mariana has been keeping birds since she received her first cockatiel in 1982.
When her husband bought her a Patagonian conure in 1985, she searched desperately for information pre-internet. She found our bird club with Dale Thompson speaking on conures which saved both her and the conure.
Since then she keeps and raises lots of different birds including, finches, canaries, budgies, lovebirds, Senegal’s, Goffin cockatoos, yellow nape and blue front Amazons, greys, and the Patagonians.
She often shows her birds and has won 4 golden bears from the state fair.
She has been a member and officer of CCBS for more than 30 years. She is also a member of Foothill Bird Fanciers, Amador Bird Club, American Federation of Aviculture (AFA), and Avicultural Society of America (ASA).
Mariana will be speaking on canaries as February is traditionally the time to set up your canaries for breeding. Mariana placed on the top bench her first time with a Hartz canary in 1990.
